Success is measured in various ways…… when it comes to hockey not everyone will play in the NHL or NCAA D1. Mike Hedden had a different road to success and here is his story.
From humble beginnings to playing in the top leagues in the world Mike Hedden was always creating opportunities.
Playing for the Thorold Blackhawks in the GHL as a 19 and 20 year old Mike didn’t gather any NCAA D1 interest and decided to play NCAA D3 at Neumann Knights …. Because they were his only offer …. After 108 games played Mike put up 168 points and he was put into the schools Hall of Fame in 2017.
After 2 successful seasons in the ECHL Mike started to gather some AHL interest, Playing for Grand Rapids – Rockford and Rochester.
Right about this time the Texas Stars in the AHL gave Mike a AHL deal where he put up 127 points in 210 games. Teams in the KHL really noticed Mike and started to call his agent Darryl Wolski after winning the Calder Cup with Texas where he did a point a game and won the cup for the Stars.
Mike played several years and earned a good living in the KHL ( Russia ) DEL1 ( Germany ) LIIGA ( Finland ) plus EIHL ( UK)
After a few seasons back in North America Mike retired to coach in the OHL and in 2024 – 2025 he was offered Head Coach of him old team in the NCAA D3 Neumann Knights
Anything is possible and Mike Hedden proved that.
